Weapon camouflage grinding has long been one of Call of Duty's biggest endgame pursuits, and Modern Warfare 4 is set to offer separate completion paths for Multiplayer, Warzone and DMZ. Across those three modes, players can chase nine mastery camos, with each mode using its own three-stage ladder that begins at the individual weapon level and eventually culminates in a broad arsenal-wide reward.

Modern Warfare 4 also adds another layer beyond those mode-specific tracks: Prestige camos. These Pyroclast variants are connected to the game's Prestige progression rather than the standard weapon-camo checklist, giving dedicated players an additional set of visual rewards for continuing to level up.

Some exact challenge requirements have not yet been detailed. That means the broad structure is clear, but players will need to wait for more information on the specific tasks needed for individual weapons. Still, the announced framework makes one thing apparent: finishing the top camos in every Modern Warfare 4 mode will require a substantial commitment.

Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer mastery camos

Multiplayer has three core mastery camos:

For useful background on this topic, read Helldivers Movie Moves to 2028 as Alan Ritchson Takes Over Lead Role.

  • Mercurial Drift
  • Polyatomic Reforged
  • Orion Reforged

The first stage is Mercurial Drift. Its progression follows the familiar weapon-completion structure used by recent Call of Duty games. Players must first finish every base camo for a particular weapon. Once that weapon's normal camo requirements are complete, the Mercurial Drift challenge becomes available for it.

Although the individual requirements remain unconfirmed, this establishes Mercurial Drift as the first major milestone for each gun. It is not simply granted by leveling a weapon; it sits after the full base-camo journey and is intended to show that a player has completed that weapon's standard camouflage set.

The second tier is Polyatomic Reforged, a refreshed take on the Polyatomic camo seen in Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3. This stage expands the goal from one weapon to an entire weapon category. After earning Mercurial Drift on every weapon within a class, players can access the Polyatomic Reforged challenges for that class's guns.

For example, the process means completing Mercurial Drift across a full category such as assault rifles, sniper rifles or another group before moving on to Polyatomic Reforged. The design rewards players who focus on an archetype, while still ultimately asking them to use the entire arsenal if they want the final prize.

That top Multiplayer reward is Orion Reforged. Like Polyatomic Reforged, Orion Reforged revisits a well-known mastery-camo name from the earlier Modern Warfare entries. Unlocking it requires Polyatomic Reforged on every base-game weapon.

Modern Warfare 4's launch arsenal is stated to include 33 weapons. Later seasonal additions can provide flexibility, allowing players to leave out some guns introduced after launch, but the overall required total will still match the original arsenal size. In practical terms, post-launch weapons may let players choose which items to skip, but they do not lower the full completion target.

Pyroclast Prestige camos add a separate goal

In addition to the normal weapon mastery routes, Modern Warfare 4 introduces four Pyroclast Prestige camo variants:

  • Pyroclast
  • Pyroclast Verge
  • Pyroclast Scatter
  • Pyroclast Cascade

These rewards are distinct from the nine mastery camos spread across Multiplayer, Warzone and DMZ. They are also separate from the weapon Prestige camos associated with Black Ops 7. Instead, the Modern Warfare 4 Pyroclast set is linked to reaching higher Prestige milestones.

The current expectation is that the base Pyroclast camo will arrive around first Prestige, with Verge, Scatter and Cascade reserved for more significant later milestones. However, the exact Prestige levels and detailed reward schedule have not been confirmed.

The system is particularly notable because Modern Warfare 4 features different Prestige approaches. One path resets progression unlocks, while another lets players retain their unlocked weapons. The Pyroclast rewards appear positioned as incentives for the reset-based route, ensuring there is a cosmetic reason to take on the more demanding progression option.

There is still an important unanswered question for completionists. It is not yet clear whether players who choose the non-resetting route will later be able to return and obtain rewards exclusive to the resetting Prestige path. Until the full Prestige reward rules are explained, anyone deciding between those routes should recognize that the choice could matter for collectors.

Warzone mastery camos: Parallax, Damascus Reforged and Empyros

Warzone receives its own independent three-camo track in Modern Warfare 4:

  • Parallax
  • Damascus Reforged
  • Empyros

This marks Warzone's third overall collection of mastery camos, following the arrival of battle royale-specific mastery progression with Black Ops 6. The separate path matters because it means Warzone players have their own set of mode-focused targets instead of merely pursuing Multiplayer rewards in a battle royale environment.

Parallax is the first Warzone mastery camo. It becomes available once every other camo for an individual weapon has been earned in Warzone. As with Multiplayer's first mastery step, it serves as the finishing flourish for a single gun's normal camouflage progression.

Next comes Damascus Reforged. Players unlock its challenge after obtaining Parallax on all weapons in a single category. Damascus Reforged is an animated reimagining of the Damascus camo associated with Modern Warfare 2019, though it is now part of the Warzone mastery track rather than a Multiplayer destination.

The category-based requirement should make the middle of the climb feel more manageable than immediately demanding every weapon in the game. Still, the final step ensures that those who want the ultimate Warzone reward must eventually work through the broader selection of guns.

Empyros is the final Warzone mastery camo. It is earned by acquiring Damascus Reforged across every weapon in Warzone. That makes Empyros the battle royale mode's overall completion reward: a visual marker for players who have fully finished its mastery-camo ladder rather than concentrating on only a few preferred loadout options.

DMZ leaves beta with its own completion ladder

DMZ is also getting a dedicated trio of mastery camos as it moves beyond its beta period. The extraction-focused mode's rewards are:

  • Chiral
  • Ripple Tide
  • Helio

Chiral begins the DMZ progression. Once a player completes a weapon's base-camo path in DMZ, they can take on the relevant Chiral challenge. Like Mercurial Drift and Parallax in the other modes, Chiral represents the final single-weapon step after standard camouflage work has been finished.

Ripple Tide then widens the requirement to a whole weapon class. Earning Chiral for every gun in a category unlocks the Ripple Tide challenges for those weapons. A player completing Chiral on every SMG, for instance, would reach the point where Ripple Tide can be pursued for that group.

The ultimate DMZ reward is Helio. It requires Ripple Tide on every gun in DMZ. Helio is expected to function like prior top-tier completion rewards, meaning it should unlock automatically once the necessary number of Ripple Tide camos has been earned rather than asking for another separate final challenge. That detail has not been fully confirmed, but it is the anticipated structure.

What the overall camo structure means for players

Modern Warfare 4's system is built around three repeating steps: finish base camos for one weapon, complete the first mastery camo across a category, then finish the second mastery tier across the entire mode's weapon set. That pattern appears in Multiplayer, Warzone and DMZ, but every mode has its own camo names and its own progression pool.

For players seeking a single headline objective, Orion Reforged is Multiplayer's endgame target, Empyros fills that role in Warzone, and Helio is DMZ's top reward. For those who also intend to push their account progression, the four Pyroclast Prestige variants offer a parallel goal outside the ordinary weapon checklist.

Specific weapon challenges, full Prestige milestone details and additional rules around the two Prestige options remain to be announced. Those details will determine the most efficient routes through each grind. What is already known, however, is that Modern Warfare 4 is treating camouflage completion as a mode-by-mode undertaking, with nine principal mastery rewards and a separate Prestige collection waiting for players prepared to keep climbing.
