Home Sweet Home is one of the more unusual quests in The Blood of Dawnwalker. It begins after Coen searches the Tower for the Astrologer during Who Pulls the Strings, but the search takes a sharp turn when he is pulled into a disturbing dream shaped around his family home. What initially appears to be a simple memory soon reveals itself as a repeating nightmare, complete with hostile spirits, a returning boss, and a route that resets until Coen discovers the detail that breaks the cycle.
The quest can be especially demanding because the nightmare removes Coen's normal equipment. That makes even familiar enemies much more resilient than players may expect, while healing supplies become an important part of every attempt. The key is not merely to win the required fights: after the first complete loop, the dream changes. Paying attention to the newly altered environment, particularly the courtyard well, is what allows progress beyond the reset.
This walkthrough covers every major stage of Home Sweet Home, from the first conversation at the family house through the final confrontation with the dream's memories. It also explains the correct interaction order during the funeral sequence, the safest approach to combat without regular gear, and the reward waiting once Coen returns to the Tower.
How Home Sweet Home Begins
Home Sweet Home becomes available as part of the events surrounding the Astrologer in the Tower during the Who Pulls the Strings quest. Finding him triggers Coen's nightmare delusion, transporting him to a vision of his family. Although the opening feels domestic and calm, it is only a temporary illusion before the dream becomes openly hostile.

At the start, speak to Coen's father. You may be offered the opportunity to split logs for firewood. This choice does not affect the quest's outcome, so players can do it for the role-playing flavor or simply continue onward.
After that, head into the kitchen and speak with the family members there. The conversation leads into a cutscene, and the apparent safety of the home is interrupted by a monster attack. From this point forward, treat the area like a combat zone rather than a narrative-only memory.
Prepare for the Nightmare's Equipment Restriction
Before leaving the house and following the route ahead, search the nearby area for healing items. This is worth doing on every pass through the nightmare, as Coen does not have access to his usual gear during the dream. Without a preferred weapon setup, upgraded tools, or the normal advantages players may have built elsewhere, combat can become slow and punishing.
Healing is therefore more valuable than it might be in ordinary exploration. Do not rush ahead after the opening cutscene if containers and supplies remain unsearched. The coming encounters include groups of enemies and a boss, so conserving resources early can prevent a difficult repeat later.
When fighting in this section, patience is generally more effective than aggression. The enemies can take time to defeat because of the gear restriction, but unnecessary trades will drain the healing stock you have just collected. Keep space when surrounded, avoid committing to extended attack strings if an enemy is preparing a counter, and prioritize survival over finishing an opponent quickly.
Save Coen's Mother From the Spirit Skeletons
Proceed along the path after the attack at the family home. Coen soon reaches the first required battle, where several spirit skeletons must be defeated to save his mother. This is the moment when the lack of equipment becomes most immediately noticeable. The foes may feel unusually durable, so do not assume the encounter is designed to be cleared with the same aggressive tempo used outside the dream.
Use defensive movement and look for isolated targets where possible. If multiple skeletons are crowding Coen, reposition before attacking rather than trying to force damage through the group. Taking small, safe openings can make the encounter longer, but it is more reliable than spending healing items to recover from avoidable hits.
Once the spirit skeletons are defeated, continue the story by speaking with Esme. Then move onward through the available route, again checking containers for any supplies that can help with the next stages.
Defeat the Spectres in the Garden
The next major combat arena is a large garden occupied by several spectres. This encounter has a clear target priority: eliminate the red spectre first. It is the most dangerous enemy in the group because it can drain Coen's health at range. Leaving it alive while dealing with the other spectres creates a much more dangerous fight, especially with limited recovery items and no regular loadout.
Focus your attention on the red enemy as soon as the battle begins, while staying alert to attacks from the rest of the group. If possible, draw the red spectre into a position where its allies cannot overwhelm Coen at the same time. Once it has been removed, the remaining enemies are substantially easier to manage.
After clearing the garden, speak with Coen's siblings and continue toward the church. The dream is nearing its apparent conclusion, but this first trip through the sequence is not the true escape.
How to Beat the Keeper of Nightmares
At the church, Coen faces the Keeper of Nightmares. This is the same enemy encountered earlier outside the Tower, so players who have already fought it should recognize much of its behavior. However, the stripped-down nightmare state makes the rematch more demanding.
The most reliable strategy is built around evasion, discipline, and counterattacks. Do not chase the Keeper recklessly. Wait for its attacks, evade them cleanly, and respond when it leaves itself exposed. Parrying is particularly valuable against its flying attack: a successful parry can knock the boss from the air and open an opportunity to deal damage safely.
Because the fight can take longer without Coen's normal equipment, avoid letting frustration lead to overextension. A small counterattack window is often better than attempting to force a full offensive sequence. Preserve healing for genuine mistakes or attacks that are difficult to escape, rather than using it after minor damage that could have been avoided with more cautious positioning.
Defeating the Keeper triggers a church scene. At first, it may seem that Coen has resolved the nightmare. Instead, the dream sends him back to its opening situation. The reset is intentional, and the quest cannot be completed by repeating the exact same route indefinitely.
Repeat the Loop Until the Well Freezes
After waking at the beginning again, repeat the early sequence: speak with Coen's father, meet the family in the kitchen, survive the attack, collect what healing supplies you can, save Coen's mother from the spirit skeletons, and defeat the spectres in the garden.
There is one important difference on this pass. Once the garden spectres are dead again, examine the courtyard. The well will now be covered in ice. This frozen well is the environmental change that signals the path forward.
Interact with it to begin a cutscene in which Coen speaks with his own reflection. When the scene concludes, follow the trail of snow extending from the well toward a cliff in the south. Coen also regains access to Shadowstep, which is required to proceed.
Use Shadowstep to Reach the Red Portal
Follow the snowy trail until you reach the southern cliff. Use Shadowstep to teleport to the top. From there, travel through the caves beyond the cliff until you arrive at a red portal at the far end.
This route is the first real break from the dream's established loop. Rather than returning to the family, garden, and church sequence once more, the portal transports Coen into a new memory-like setting: a funeral.
If you are unsure whether you are in the right place, look for the combination of the snow trail, the elevated cliff route, the caves, and the portal. The newly restored teleport ability is not optional here; it is the means of reaching the path that was unavailable during the earlier cycle.
Funeral Puzzle: Correct Character Interaction Order
At the funeral, a priest is delivering a sermon. Progress is locked behind a specific set of character interactions, and the order matters. Speak to the following figures in this exact sequence:
- Alin, at the coffin.
- Esme, standing near the coffin.
- Coen, seated alone in the front pew.
Interacting with Alin, then Esme, then Coen advances the sermon and allows the scene to continue. If the moment appears stalled, double-check that all three conversations were completed in that order.
When prompted, leave the funeral through the back. Coen must pursue the boy, leading through another red portal and into the forest beyond.
Explore the Meadow and Follow the Western Route
Beyond the portal is a meadow dominated by a large tree. Several objects in the area can be examined, offering additional details about the characters and the events underlying the nightmare. Take the time to interact with them if you want the fuller narrative context behind the dream.
The essential object for progression is the skates. Once you have interacted with them, the route onward becomes available. Follow the indicated path west until Coen reaches the top of another cliff.
Do not jump down from this cliff. A jump will kill Coen. Instead, use Clawride to descend safely. This is a simple but important navigation check at the end of a long quest sequence; choosing the obvious direct drop results in death rather than a shortcut.
Speak With Alin to End the Dream
After using Clawride to reach the bottom of the cliff, find and interact with Alin. Speak with him to bring the nightmare sequence to its conclusion. This conversation ends Home Sweet Home and returns Coen to the Tower, finally free from the repeating delusion.
Completing the quest grants its rewards, including the Legendary Astrologer's Ring. The ring provides multiple benefits connected to Witchcraft abilities and Activation Charge statistics, making it a meaningful reward for players using those systems in their build.
Home Sweet Home is structured to make its first reset feel like failure, but it is actually the clue that the nightmare follows its own logic. Clear the first loop carefully, watch for the frozen well during the second run, use Shadowstep to find the portal route, complete the funeral interactions in the proper order, and use Clawride rather than jumping from the final cliff. With those steps, Coen can leave the dream behind and continue exploring Vale Sangora.
