Control Resonant sends players through a version of the Oldest House packed with locked doors, restricted workspaces, and areas that are clearly meant to be revisited later. During the opening escape sequence in particular, it is easy to spot doors marked with clearance requirements that Dylan cannot meet at that point. Those barriers are not necessarily dead ends. They are part of a progression system built around a set of keycards collected through both main-story missions and optional quests.

There are five obtainable Clearance Keycards in Control Resonant. They do not simply represent a straight sequence of numbered permissions: alongside Level 1, Level 2, and Level 6 access, players can obtain cards for the Mobile Research Station and the Oldest House Storage Room. Each is tied to a specific mission chain, location, or NPC interaction, so players looking to clear previously inaccessible rooms will need to keep progressing through the campaign and return to key hub locations when new quests become available.

One important detail is worth knowing before beginning the hunt: doors requiring Clearance Level 18 cannot be opened by Dylan. Although Level 18 markings appear in several places, there is no Level 18 keycard available to the player. In the instances where such a door does open, an NPC with the necessary authorization handles it instead.

How Clearance Keycards work in Control Resonant

Clearance is divided into separate access categories. A door may ask for a numbered clearance level, but others are associated with more specialized facilities. As a result, having a high-numbered card should not be treated as a universal master key. The Mobile Research Station and Storage Room cards are their own distinct rewards, acquired through their respective side-quest paths.

For useful background on this topic, read Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD Opens a Portal to Linirea's Past.

The structure also explains why early exploration can feel deliberately incomplete. The tutorial escape through the Oldest House places locked areas in front of the player before the matching permissions can be acquired. Rather than spending too long trying to force a route during that first visit, players should make a mental note of restricted doors and continue with the story. Returning once Dylan has the appropriate card is the intended approach.

Of the five cards, two arrive through required main-story progression, while the remaining three require optional quest content or post-story activity. Anyone concentrating only on the critical path can therefore finish major campaign beats without collecting every available clearance credential.

Level 1 Clearance Keycard

The Level 1 Keycard is the first basic clearance item players receive. It is awarded inside the Central Field Office during the story quest The West Incursion Zone Resonant.

This quest becomes available automatically after Dylan speaks to Zoe at the Watchtower for the first time. There is no separate optional trigger to worry about for this card; reaching Zoe and advancing the story from that initial Watchtower conversation leads into the relevant mission.

Because Level 1 clearance is tied to the early campaign, it is a useful signal that the game expects players to begin revisiting some of the restricted spaces noticed earlier. If a nearby door was blocked by a low-level clearance requirement during the escape, it may be worth retracing the route after the Central Field Office sequence. The card's purpose is to turn some previously decorative-looking locked doors into explorable detours.

Level 2 Clearance Keycard

The Level 2 Keycard is another main-story reward. It is handed to Dylan by Arish in the Evacuation Zone Evac Building as part of the Evacuation Procedures quest.

This makes Level 2 access relatively straightforward: follow the main narrative until the Evacuation Procedures mission and speak with Arish at the appropriate point in the Evacuation Zone. Players do not need to begin an unrelated collectible search or solve a separate puzzle to secure it.

Still, the card matters for completion-minded exploration because the game's clearance system is spread across multiple regions rather than being confined to one linear corridor. Once Level 2 access has been granted, check doors encountered in areas already visited as well as doors found while moving forward. Not every restricted route will use this exact level, but a newly acquired card is always a good reason to take another look at the Oldest House's sealed-off rooms.

Level 6 Clearance Keycard

The Level 6 Keycard arrives much later than the first two numbered credentials. It is tied to post-main-story content, meaning players must first complete the central story before they can start the quest that leads to it.

After finishing the main story, return to Zoe at the Watchtower. Speaking with her unlocks the side quest New Growth. Continue following this optional mission until its objective changes to Investigate Underhill's Last Known Location.

That objective directs Dylan to a research station in The Park. The Level 6 Clearance Keycard is located at this station. The wording of the quest objective is especially useful here: players who have reached the Underhill investigation stage are on the correct branch and should not need to search unrelated districts for the card.

Level 6 clearance is therefore the clearest example of Control Resonant using endgame side content to extend exploration. It is not something to expect during an initial rush through the story. If a Level 6 door has been sitting unopened on the map or in a remembered hallway, finish the campaign, check in with Zoe, and work through New Growth rather than assuming the card was missed earlier.

Mobile Research Station Keycard

The Mobile Research Station Keycard is obtained through the side quest Crossing the Threshold. Unlike the early numbered cards, this quest is initiated by investigating a specific discovery rather than by simply advancing a required mission.

To begin, find a body in a garage west of the Central Field Office. Discovering that body starts Crossing the Threshold. The quest eventually leads to the Central Dig Site Threshold, where the keycard can be collected.

At the Central Dig Site Threshold, look for the body located in the marked yellow square and investigate it. Dylan takes the Mobile Research Station Keycard from that body. The marked location is the crucial final step: reaching the threshold alone is not the end of the search, as the card is specifically associated with the corpse in the designated yellow area.

This route is easy to overlook for players who do not thoroughly check the area west of the Central Field Office. If the Mobile Research Station remains inaccessible and Crossing the Threshold has not appeared in the quest list, the garage body is the starting point to revisit.

Oldest House Storage Room Keycard

The fifth and final obtainable credential is the Oldest House Storage Room Keycard, also identified as the SR Keycard. It is earned during the side quest The Complete Set.

Begin The Complete Set at the Museum of Curiosities in the West Incursion Zone. From there, continue following the mission objectives until the quest brings Dylan to Langston near the Panopticon. Langston gives Dylan the SR Keycard as part of the mission.

As with the Mobile Research Station card, this is a specialized access item rather than a conventional numbered clearance level. Players should not assume that Level 6 access replaces it or that the Storage Room permission will be automatically added during the main story. The Complete Set must be started at the Museum of Curiosities and progressed to Langston's handoff near the Panopticon.

Can Dylan open Level 18 doors?

No obtainable keycard grants Dylan Clearance Level 18. Level 18 doors appear around Control Resonant, which can make them seem like the final tier of the clearance hunt, but there is no player-accessible Level 18 card in the game.

Some Level 18 doors are opened in situations involving NPCs who possess their own clearance. Those moments do not indicate that Dylan will later receive equivalent access. Other Level 18 doors appear to remain closed entirely. For players trying to account for every locked entrance, that distinction is important: an unopened Level 18 door is not automatically evidence of a missed collectible, hidden quest, or incomplete keycard chain.

Complete Control Resonant Clearance Keycard checklist

  • Level 1 Keycard: Earned in the Central Field Office during The West Incursion Zone Resonant, after first speaking to Zoe at the Watchtower.
  • Level 2 Keycard: Given by Arish in the Evacuation Zone Evac Building during the main-story quest Evacuation Procedures.
  • Level 6 Keycard: Complete the main story, speak to Zoe at the Watchtower, begin New Growth, and follow it to Investigate Underhill's Last Known Location at a research station in The Park.
  • Mobile Research Station Keycard: Find the body in a garage west of the Central Field Office to start Crossing the Threshold, then investigate the body in the marked yellow square at the Central Dig Site Threshold.
  • Oldest House Storage Room Keycard / SR Keycard: Start The Complete Set at the Museum of Curiosities in the West Incursion Zone, then progress the mission until Langston gives it to Dylan near the Panopticon.

With all five cards collected, Dylan can return to the clearance-gated locations that were unavailable during earlier visits. Just keep expectations in check around Level 18: those doors sit outside the player's available authorization, even after every obtainable keycard has been secured.
