Culdcept BEGINS is bringing its blend of board-game movement, card-driven combat and territorial strategy to PC later this month. The Steam version launches on October 28, 2026, following the game's Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 debut on July 16. Alongside the new platform, the PC edition will introduce additional battle maps and a collection of practical battle-interface improvements designed to make information easier to read and actions easier to manage in the middle of a match.

Players who want to try the game before release will have an opportunity during Steam Next Fest: October 2026 Edition, when a demo is planned to be available. The full release will support one to four players and include text support in Japanese, English, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

The PC launch arrives after a successful start for the latest entry in the long-running series. Culdcept BEGINS has surpassed 100,000 units shipped worldwide, a figure that includes digital sales. That early performance is notable for a series with a distinctive identity: it is neither simply a conventional digital board game nor a standard collectible-card battler. Instead, matches depend on navigating a map, claiming and improving territory, selecting cards from a customized Book, and adapting to the changing board state created by opponents.

Three new maps join the Steam version

The biggest content addition in the Steam release is a set of three new battle maps. Each is described as having its own characteristics, giving players fresh spaces in which to build strategies around movement routes, territory control and the cards in their Books. Since map layout can substantially alter the value of particular movement options and tactical decisions, more boards should matter well beyond simple visual variety.

Ten new Book Cover designs are also being added. Books are the game's decks, so these covers offer a way to personalize the presentation of a player's chosen card collection. It is a cosmetic feature, but one that fits a game where deck construction is central to the experience and where players may build several Books for different map types, strategies or opponents.

The Steam edition also adds a card-name read-aloud function in the Card Library. While that may sound like a smaller feature beside maps and deck cosmetics, it could be particularly useful for players spending time learning a large card roster, checking their collection, or becoming familiar with terms before entering a competitive match.

Battle UI changes aim to improve readability

Several of the announced PC improvements focus on clarity during battles. Culdcept's matches can involve a considerable amount of information at once: player locations, routes, terrain, cards, possessions and the available options at any given point. The Steam release makes changes intended to make these situations easier to parse without changing the game's fundamental mix of board movement and card tactics.

For another perspective on this story, read Culdcept BEGINS Deals Steam a PC Release on October 28 With New Maps and Battle UI Updates.

  • Character positions in Map Mode will be easier to see during battles.
  • Card selection in the battle Information screen is being improved for better usability.
  • Movement directions at route junctions will be more visible during battles.
  • The Card Library receives the new card-name read-aloud feature.

Clearer route prompts could be especially meaningful on maps with multiple junctions, where a wrong turn can disrupt a carefully planned route or expose a player to an unfavorable confrontation. Improved character visibility, meanwhile, should help players rapidly assess the board before deciding where to travel or which card to commit. The revised card-selection experience similarly targets moments where a quick, accurate read of the available tools can decide a turn.

Importantly, these are not changes being held exclusively for PC. The three maps, Book Covers and interface upgrades are also planned for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions in a free update at a later date. No specific update date has been announced. For existing console players, that means the Steam launch will ultimately contribute new content and usability work to the versions already available rather than splitting features permanently by platform.

Early buyers can claim avatars and exclusive cosmetics

The Steam version will have an Early Purchase Bonus period running from October 28 at 00:00 JST through December 27 at 23:59 JST. Customers who purchase during that window can download a bundle featuring two newly illustrated characters, two Book Covers and one Steam-exclusive item.

The character additions are Zeneth and Najaran, both illustrated by Satoshi Matsuura. Each can be selected as a COM opponent as well as a player avatar. The bonus also includes the Culdra (1st) Book Cover and the Onyx Book Cover. The Onyx design is exclusive to Steam.

For newcomers, selectable COM opponents provide an extra option for solo play, while player avatars offer a more visible way to personalize a profile at the board. The offer has a clearly defined end date, so players interested in the characters or the Steam-only Onyx cover will need to purchase within the stated promotional period rather than wait for a possible later opportunity.

Standard, Deluxe and digital-content options

Culdcept BEGINS will be sold on Steam in a Standard Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The Standard Edition includes the game, while the Digital Deluxe Edition packages the game with five pieces of digital material. A separate Digital Content Set will also be offered for those who own the game and want the extras without purchasing the Deluxe Edition.

  • Standard Edition: ¥6,380 / $44.99 / EUR39.99
  • Digital Deluxe Edition: ¥7,581 / $54.13 / EUR49.63
  • Digital Content Set: ¥1,600 / $11.99 / EUR12.25

The Deluxe digital collection includes a Complete Card Book in PDF form, though that item is Japanese-only. It also contains a 53-track original soundtrack in MP3 format composed by Noisycroak, five PC wallpapers at 1920 by 1080 resolution in JPG format, 33 in-game voice files in MP3 format, and the Bavrashka Font in OTF format with an alphabet reference chart in PNG format.

For players chiefly focused on the game itself, the Standard Edition supplies the full board-and-card experience. The Deluxe option is geared toward collectors who want the music, card material, voice clips and desktop art, while the standalone Digital Content Set provides a route for upgrading later. Buyers should note that the Complete Card Book's Japanese-only designation applies even though the game itself supports multiple text languages.

A launch sale is planned through November 11

Both the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions will be discounted as part of a Launch Celebration Sale. The sale begins at launch on October 28 and runs through November 11, 2026. Exact discount percentages have not been detailed, but the promotion gives prospective players an alternative to buying at the listed regular prices.

The timing also places the discount within the wider Early Purchase Bonus window. Players who buy during the launch sale should therefore be able to take advantage of the reduced price while still qualifying for Zeneth, Najaran, the Culdra (1st) Book Cover and the Steam-exclusive Onyx Book Cover, provided their purchase falls within the specified October 28 to December 27 JST period.

What the PC release means for Culdcept BEGINS

Culdcept BEGINS reaches Steam with more than a simple platform conversion. The new maps expand the tactical landscape, while the interface work addresses the split-second reading and selection demands that arise during board battles. The additional Book Covers, read-aloud card names and launch bonuses round out a release that is adding both functional refinements and collectible flourishes.

For series veterans, the appeal is likely to be the opportunity to take familiar Culdcept principles into a new version with more boards and updated usability. For players approaching the series for the first time, the Steam Next Fest demo should offer the clearest starting point before the full launch. Either way, October 28 marks the next stage for a game that has already found an audience on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with the console versions set to benefit from the PC edition's core additions in a later free update.
