The October 2026 ID@Xbox Showcase packed roughly 30 minutes with a broad cross-section of independent games headed to Xbox platforms. The lineup ranged from stark science-fiction survival games and hand-drawn platformers to tactical role-playing adventures, strange workplace comedies, shared-world co-op quests, and several recognizable remasters. A number of the games are also planned as day-one additions to Game Pass, giving Xbox and PC players plenty to watch for across the remainder of 2026 and throughout 2027.

Below is a full breakdown of the presentation's announcements, including the newly revealed projects, confirmed Xbox versions, release windows, and the handful of multiplatform titles that also received fresh looks.

New worlds, dangerous planets, and a frog with a grappling tongue

Magenta Down

One of the showcase's world premieres was Magenta Down, a new atmospheric sci-fi game from 2 Ton Studios, the developer behind 2020's Unto the End. Due in 2027 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, it places players and their crew on a hostile exoplanet where basic survival is far from assured.

Scavenging appears to be a core part of staying alive, but the planet's hazards extend beyond limited supplies. Players will need to contend with injuries and radiation while confronting aggressive alien creatures that resemble enormous sea urchins. The premise suggests an experience built around pressure, harsh environments, and the consequences of venturing too far from safety.

Croak

Croak is a hand-drawn 2D platformer arriving in March 2027 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, with a day-one Game Pass launch planned. It stars the Frog Prince, whose most useful tool is a long, adhesive tongue. That tongue can be used to latch onto surfaces, scale levels, and generate momentum while navigating the game's platforming challenges.

The amphibian hero can also curl into a ball and bounce across objects, lending the game an energetic movement system that should make speed and timing central to its design. Its playful frog-focused concept may be immediately familiar to fans of the indie scene, but its combination of grappling and rolling gives it its own approach to traversal.

Mr. Records

Glee-Cheese Studio showed more of Mr. Records, specifically highlighting one of its music-themed platforming stages. The game is scheduled for spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. The showcase segment focused on how its platforming is connected to musical structure, offering a closer look at the rhythm and visual character of one of the game's many levels.

Chronoscript: The Endless End

Previously announced for PlayStation 5 and PC, the hand-drawn search-action game Chronoscript: The Endless End is now confirmed for Xbox Series X/S as well. It is targeting summer 2027. Its unusual premise follows an editor who becomes trapped inside an unfinished manuscript, setting up a world where the boundaries between storytelling, writing, and exploration are likely to be central to the adventure.

Deckbuilding meets time loops, defenses, and office horror

Love is a Roguelike

Developer Titan1Studios is bringing Love is a Roguelike to Xbox Series X/S and PC in fall 2027. The game combines deckbuilding strategy with a sci-fi western setting, following rogue space marshal Rex and his partner Lakshmi. Their mission is to restore Lakshmi's shattered memories, but they are stuck in a time loop on an asteroid.

The setup has been compared to a collision between 50 First Dates and Edge of Tomorrow, which conveys both the romantic memory-loss angle and the repeated-cycle structure. How its narrative revelations interact with card-based strategy will be one of the more intriguing questions as the game moves toward release.

Drill Keeper

Drill Keeper blends roguelike deckbuilding with tower defense and is planned for Xbox Series X/S and PC in summer 2027. It will join Game Pass on day one. Players extract riches from fully destructible worlds, but mining comes with a defensive responsibility: the Planetary Drill needs protection.

Constructing fortresses and other defensive measures is essential to keeping the operation running. The combination of destructible environments, resource gathering, cards, and defense construction could make each run a balancing act between aggressive expansion and protecting the machinery that enables it.

Mr Magpie's Harmless Card Game

Despite its deliberately reassuring title, Mr Magpie's Harmless Card Game is a sinister deckbuilder set inside a deadly corporate office. It is scheduled for early 2027 on Xbox Series X/S and PC, also as a day-one Game Pass release.

Players are trapped in the office of Mr. Magpie, a deranged puppet voiced by Matt Mercer, and must gamble with their own survival in pursuit of cash and advancement. Progress involves flipping cards, building combinations, exploiting synergies, and climbing the corporate hierarchy. One especially important warning accompanies the game's rules: avoid Jerry cards.

Creature collecting, co-op adventures, and peculiar jobs

Waveling Island

Another world-premiere announcement, Waveling Island is a 2027 game for Xbox Series X/S and PC that pairs hand-drawn pixel art with a tropical, cozy-looking creature-collecting adventure. After washing ashore on the island, players will capture, train, and battle its odd inhabitants. The creatures include particularly unconventional designs, such as a sentient pencil.

Combat is only one side of the experience. Players can form relationships with island residents, investigate an overarching mystery, gather materials, and rebuild the island by constructing and decorating buildings. That mixture of collecting, town restoration, and exploration gives the game a potentially relaxing counterpoint to its battle systems.

A Game About Digging A Hole Together

A Game About Digging A Hole Together launches December 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. It follows the 2025 minimalist viral game A Game About Digging a Hole and expands its direct premise into multiplayer.

Up to four players can work together to dig ever deeper, this time on a beach. Along the way, they can uncover treasure, collect resources to sell, and unlock better equipment to maintain their excavation. It is a wonderfully literal concept, but the co-op structure should turn the simple act of digging into an increasingly collaborative chase for depth and discoveries.

Scramble Knights Online

Scramble Knights Online arrives October 26 on Xbox Series X/S and PC, with Game Pass availability on day one. Formerly called Scramble Knights Royale, the project has shifted its emphasis toward cooperative exploration in a world shared with other players.

The MMO-lite format promises dungeons, monsters, loot, and group adventuring. Its fantasy exploration and action have been positioned as an online multiplayer spin on the kind of questing associated with classic Zelda games, making it a notable option for players looking for a more social take on dungeon crawling.

Paper Shredder

Paper Shredder is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC in winter 2026. Its goal is simple: destroy confidential company documents and earn a $1 million payout. The scale of the work is less simple, as players face towering piles of paper that need to be fed through the shredder.

Helping--or perhaps making the situation considerably stranger--is the ever-present Happiness Manager. This toxically positive observer offers constant moral support while the player tackles the mountain of corporate paperwork. The concept leans into workplace absurdity, turning a mundane office task into the basis for a full game.

Dark fantasy, detective work, and stories of survival

Vanran

Due in early 2027 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, Vanran is a dark-fantasy action RPG about a human forced to labor in the Demon Realm before rebelling against his captors. Its third-person combat takes inspiration from Souls-like games and appears intentionally brutal, with bloody confrontations framing the protagonist's push for freedom.

Rustown

Rustown is set for June 30, 2027 on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Its post-apocalyptic setting has been devastated by the "idiot virus," and the protagonist's search begins with a letter from their long-missing father. The resulting journey sends them through slums populated by infected citizens.

While survival and action are part of the experience, the story is also concerned with discovering life and kindness in a damaged world. That focus could give its bleak setting a more human perspective than its name and premise initially suggest.

Red Kiss

Red Kiss is a tactical narrative RPG planned for 2027 on Xbox Series X/S and PC, launching day one on Game Pass. From the team behind Herald: The Interactive Period Drama, it moves into a Cold War-era Berlin populated by vampires.

Players lead a team of these undead figures through choice-driven scenarios, building trust and using each vampire's powers to influence the fate of their house. The game's tactical layer and relationship-focused decisions should make team composition and personal loyalties equally important.

Graytail

Coming in November 2027 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, Graytail stars a detective who suffers from persistent headaches while investigating the disappearance of history's greatest female pilot. The top-down adventure involves gathering clues and solving puzzles, while medication is a regular necessity for managing the detective's condition.

There is also combat, with more than eight weapons available, including a cane, umbrella, and crossbow. That mix of noir-like investigation, personal discomfort, and unexpectedly varied weaponry gives Graytail one of the showcase's most distinctive setups.

Major remasters close out the showcase

Zero Parades: Director's Cut

Zero Parades: Director's Cut launches November 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The original Zero Parades: For Dead Spies, a spiritual successor to Disco Elysium, only released in May, but the Director's Cut substantially expands and refines it.

The updated version adds scenes totaling more than 40,000 words, a backstage mode, a new dramatic encounter, improved voice-over work, additional clothing items, a new death screen, inventory filtering, and more. Existing PlayStation 5 and PC versions have already received the update, while the Xbox release will arrive with the Director's Cut as its standard version.

The Wolf Among Us Remastered

The Wolf Among Us Remastered is due October 29 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch, and PC. A new story trailer offered another glimpse of the remaster of Telltale Games' acclaimed adventure. The return gives players a new chance to experience its fairy-tale noir world ahead of launch.

Shrek 2 Remastered

The presentation's final surprise was Shrek 2 Remastered, a world-premiere reveal for a November 10 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch, and PC. Aspyr is handling the remaster of the 2004 movie tie-in, which has developed a cult following over the years.

Players can once again control Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, and other familiar characters in solo play or co-op for up to four players, both locally and online. Alongside improved visuals, the remaster adds features including a photo mode and the ability to swap characters instantly. It is an unexpected finish to an indie-focused showcase, but one likely to attract both nostalgic fans and groups seeking a lighthearted co-op game.

From Game Pass-bound experiments to familiar characters returning in polished form, the October ID@Xbox Showcase demonstrated just how varied Xbox's upcoming indie slate is. The immediate schedule begins with Scramble Knights Online, The Wolf Among Us Remastered, and Zero Parades: Director's Cut, while 2027 is already crowded with original worlds waiting to be explored.
