Yuri Lowenthal Says He Has Repeatedly Pitched Deadpool for Insomniac's Next Spider-Man Game

Yuri Lowenthal, the actor behind Peter Parker in Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man series, has made no secret of the Marvel character he would most like to see join a future adventure: Deadpool.

Speaking with The Movie Dweeb on Instagram, Lowenthal was asked about the prospect of Spider-Man and Wolverine appearing together in Insomniac's next open-world Spider-Man project. While he said that kind of crossover would be "terribly exciting," the actor explained that there is another character he would advocate for even more strongly. That character is Wade Wilson, better known as Deadpool.

The comments are not confirmation that Deadpool is coming to Marvel's Spider-Man 3, or that Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is currently in development. Insomniac has not announced a third numbered Spider-Man game. Still, Lowenthal's remarks provide an interesting look at the sort of crossover he would like to see after portraying Peter Parker across Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Lowenthal's preferred crossover is Deadpool

The discussion began with Wolverine, an understandable topic given Insomniac's work on Marvel's Wolverine. The studio is preparing that game for release on September 15, and its ownership of both Spider-Man and Wolverine projects naturally invites speculation about a possible meeting between the two heroes somewhere down the line.

Lowenthal was enthusiastic about that possibility, but his own pick was more unexpected. He told The Movie Dweeb that Deadpool would be the character he would choose over Wolverine for a future Spider-Man crossover.

It is a fitting answer from a performer who has spent years voicing one of Marvel's most recognizable wisecracking heroes. Spider-Man and Deadpool have a long history of chaotic, joke-filled interactions in Marvel comics, and their contrasting personalities can create an easy comic dynamic. Peter is typically written as the more responsible, exasperated figure, while Deadpool's impulsiveness and awareness of superhero conventions can push any encounter in a much stranger direction.

That potential does not mean the pairing would translate cleanly into Insomniac's universe, however. The studio's Spider-Man games certainly include humor, playful banter, and colorful villains, but their stories are generally grounded in emotionally sincere character drama. Peter's relationships, personal losses, and responsibilities as Spider-Man have been central to the series' tone. Deadpool's particular style of violent, explicit, fourth-wall-breaking comedy would require careful handling if he were ever added to that world.

The actor says he has pushed the idea repeatedly

The Movie Dweeb then raised an apparent social-media post attributed to Insomniac creative director Brian Horton. According to the outlet, the post said "worlds collide" and used Wolverine and Spider-Man hashtags.

There is important uncertainty around that claim. Horton's Twitter account has been deactivated, and no corresponding Bluesky post was available to verify. As a result, the alleged message should not be treated as evidence of an announced crossover, much less evidence that Deadpool will appear in a future title.

Lowenthal said the alleged post was news to him. He did, though, confirm that he has personally raised the Deadpool idea with Horton on more than one occasion. The actor joked that he has pushed Horton whenever he sees him, and said that if he had somehow spoiled something about Spider-Man 3, he would like to believe the team got the idea from him.

The phrasing matters. Lowenthal was talking about his own enthusiasm and informal advocacy, not revealing a production plan. His comments are best read as a fun behind-the-scenes preference rather than a tease of confirmed content.

Why Wolverine remains the more obvious connection

Even so, the Wolverine question will likely persist. Insomniac has already built a major PlayStation Spider-Man franchise, and Marvel's Wolverine gives the studio another corner of Marvel's superhero lineup to explore. A shared developer does not automatically mean shared continuity, but it makes fan interest in a crossover easy to understand.

Wolverine is also a more straightforward tonal fit on paper. Both characters have occupied serious Marvel stories as well as lighter adventures, and a partnership could balance Spider-Man's mobility and improvisation with Logan's direct, close-range combat style. A crossover might offer plenty of gameplay possibilities if Insomniac ever chose to pursue one.

Lowenthal's Deadpool preference highlights a different opportunity. Rather than simply bringing together two famous heroes for a dramatic mission, Deadpool could challenge the established rhythm of the Spider-Man games. He could be an ally, a nuisance, an unreliable client, or even the center of a self-contained side story. His presence would also give writers room to play with Spider-Man's own tendency toward quips without making Peter behave like a completely different character.

But the opportunity comes with notable limitations. Deadpool's identity is tied closely to material that can be more adult-oriented than Insomniac's Spider-Man games. The existing Spider-Man titles have carried Teen ratings, and the source's original discussion notes that a more conventional Deadpool portrayal could potentially push a game toward a Mature rating. That is not a ratings decision or an announced concern from the ESRB; it is simply one of the practical questions a developer would need to consider.

A cameo could look very different from a full crossover

If Deadpool did ever enter Insomniac's Spider-Man universe, there would be a wide range of possible approaches. A brief cameo, collectible reference, optional mission, or post-game encounter would be very different from a full co-starring role. A limited appearance could allow the studio to acknowledge the character's popularity while maintaining the established focus on Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

A larger role would demand more answers. Would Deadpool retain his frequent meta jokes? Would he be toned down for the series' existing audience? Would a crossover be set in the same version of New York established by the Spider-Man games? And would the story revolve around Peter, Miles, or both heroes?

None of those questions currently have official answers. They are also reminders that a character's comic-book history does not guarantee an appearance in a game. Marvel's catalogue is huge, and Insomniac's Spider-Man titles have included many references, characters, and story threads without turning every possible connection into a major playable crossover.

Marvel's Spider-Man 3 has not been announced

For now, the only firm point is that Insomniac has not formally revealed Marvel's Spider-Man 3. The commercial and critical success of Marvel's Spider-Man, its Miles Morales follow-up, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 means another game may seem likely to many fans, but likelihood is not an announcement.

The studio's immediate publicly discussed focus is Marvel's Wolverine, which is set to arrive on September 15. Until Insomniac or PlayStation provides details about the next Spider-Man project, speculation around Wolverine, Deadpool, and other Marvel guest appearances should remain exactly that: speculation.

Lowenthal's comments nevertheless add a memorable voice to the conversation. The actor is clearly interested in seeing Peter Parker bounce off Deadpool, and he has apparently made that case directly to a key creative figure at Insomniac. Whether that pitch ever becomes a mission, a cameo, or nothing at all remains unknown. For fans, though, the image of Insomniac's earnest, fast-talking Spider-Man trying to manage Deadpool's chaos is likely to keep the idea alive until the studio reveals what comes next.
