Palworld 1.1 Will Continue the Story After 1.0's 'Soft Prologue,' Pocketpair Says

Palworld 1.1 Will Continue the Story After 1.0's 'Soft Prologue,' Pocketpair Says

Palworld is not finished with its 1.0 story, according to Pocketpair. The survival game's next major update, version 1.1, is planned as the next step after the game's full-release milestone, and Pocketpair communications and publishing lead John Buckley has teased that it will finally tackle a feature players have repeatedly asked the studio to add.

Speaking with GamesRadar+ during Gamescom 2026, Buckley described a noticeably different development atmosphere at Pocketpair following Palworld 1.0. The team has released its major version 1.0 update, but it is still receiving player feedback and bug reports--and it is now figuring out how to build on the game's newly established narrative foundation.

That process includes update 1.1. Buckley did not identify the incoming feature, nor did he offer a release date for the patch. He did, however, make clear that the update is not meant to be an enormous, year-long expansion on the scale some players may be imagining. Instead, it is set to introduce one substantial and specific addition that Pocketpair previously chose not to include in 1.0.

Palworld 1.0 was a milestone, not an endpoint

The release of 1.0 evidently brought both relief and a fresh set of questions for Pocketpair. Buckley said the studio was pleased to get the update out successfully, but described the post-launch period as an unusual one: the game still has ongoing pools of feedback and reports to process, while the team must also decide what comes after a major narrative marker.

His central message was straightforward: Palworld's development is continuing. Buckley said the game is not complete and that Pocketpair will keep doing more with it. That is important context for players who may have viewed version 1.0 as a clean stopping point for the game's story or broader roadmap.

For a live and regularly updated survival game, reaching 1.0 can mean several things at once. It can mark a major package of features, systems, polish, and story content, while also giving the developers a chance to reassess priorities once that package is in players' hands. Buckley's comments suggest Pocketpair is now in precisely that reassessment phase.

The studio still has the practical work of responding to feedback and fixing problems. But it also has a creative issue to solve: how to move Palworld forward after the conclusion players experienced in 1.0.

A spoiler-light look at the 'soft prologue'

Mild spoilers for Palworld 1.0 follow.

Buckley characterized the game's 1.0 material as what the studio internally calls a "soft prologue." In his explanation, players reach the tree, learn what is inside it, resolve that situation, and then the sequence ends with a crash and a return to the beach. The player wakes up there, setting the stage for what happens next.

That framing changes the meaning of the 1.0 conclusion. Rather than being positioned only as a final resolution, it appears to be the end of an opening chapter. The tree storyline gives players answers, but Pocketpair sees its aftermath as an opportunity to begin another phase of the narrative.

It is also a useful clue about how the developer is thinking about future updates. The team is not simply adding disconnected content after a completed campaign, at least based on Buckley's description. It is considering what follows directly from the events players have already seen. Palworld 1.1 may be the first update to explore that next stage, though Buckley did not spell out the patch's specific story content or structure.

Players should therefore be careful not to read more into the "soft prologue" terminology than Pocketpair has confirmed. The studio has not announced a new continent, a full expansion, or the exact direction of the next story arc. What has been confirmed is narrower but still significant: the 1.0 ending was not intended to close the book on Palworld.

The 1.1 feature was held back on purpose

The most intriguing part of Buckley's update 1.1 tease is that Pocketpair apparently had a deliberate reason for excluding its major new feature from version 1.0. He said players have been asking for the addition for a long time, but the team did not want it to distract from or consume space in the already packed 1.0 plan.

That distinction matters. This does not sound like Pocketpair is merely reacting to a recently discovered omission. Instead, the studio had a larger feature in mind, understood that the community wanted it, and decided the 1.0 update had too many other priorities for it to fit comfortably.

Now that the 1.0 release is behind it, Pocketpair apparently feels it has more room to pursue ideas that may sit outside its earlier, more tightly defined vision for Palworld. Buckley said the team can now work on other things that may not necessarily have been directly connected to that initial vision.

There is no shortage of possible guesses that fans could make from that wording, but none should be treated as confirmation. Pocketpair has not named the player-requested feature. Until it does, claims surrounding particular mechanics, regions, modes, or systems remain speculation.

What can be said with confidence is that the developer considers the feature substantial. Buckley described it as a big and specific addition, while simultaneously stressing that the overall 1.1 update will not be another release on the scale of 1.0. That sets a relatively clear expectation: players should anticipate a meaningful headline feature, but not assume the patch will deliver every large-scale idea raised by the community.

Why players should not expect a new continent just yet

Buckley had already indirectly announced version 1.1 in August while responding to player discussion online. That conversation followed a call for suggestions, which produced requests on an extremely large scale, including the prospect of an entirely new continent.

At the time, Buckley clarified that 1.1 would not be a giant project requiring a year of development. His Gamescom comments reinforce that position. Pocketpair has a major feature in store, but it is not presenting the patch as a continent-sized overhaul or a second full-launch event.

That is a sensible expectation to establish early. Community suggestion threads naturally produce wish lists that range from small quality-of-life changes to massive new worlds and wholly new gameplay pillars. A developer can take those requests seriously without being able to deliver all of them in a single update. In Palworld's case, Pocketpair is signaling that its immediate focus is more targeted.

That does not mean requests for larger additions have been dismissed forever. Buckley's broader comments about Palworld continuing, along with the "soft prologue" framing, leave open the possibility for further developments later. But the available information does not establish when those might arrive, what form they might take, or whether specific fan requests will be selected.

A new phase for Pocketpair's survival game

The shift from getting 1.0 out the door to planning 1.1 sounds like a transition point for the studio. During the 1.0 push, Pocketpair had a defined collection of goals it wanted to fit into the release. Afterward, it can look at feedback, bug reports, player priorities, and the opportunities created by the story's next chapter.

For players, the key takeaway is not simply that another patch is coming. It is that Pocketpair views the 1.0 content as the beginning of a larger narrative direction, while also acknowledging that some highly desired ideas were intentionally postponed rather than abandoned.

Palworld 1.1 still has important unknowns. Its release timing has not been announced. The headline feature remains unnamed. The exact narrative continuation has not been detailed. Yet Buckley's remarks provide a clearer outline than a generic promise of future support: the next update is intended to follow the consequences of 1.0, and it will include something the community has been calling for.

Until Pocketpair shares the full announcement, fans will have to wait to learn exactly what that means. But after the "soft prologue" of Palworld 1.0, the studio is making one point unmistakable: the next chapter is being planned.
